POSITION: A' Educational Sign Language Interpreter LOCATION: Stranahan Elementary School HOURS: A' A' A' A' A' A' 9:05 am A cents € " 3:35 pm (6.0) hours totals Monday - FridayA' A' A' A' A' REPORTS TO: Building Administration/Designee A' TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:A' A' 9 Month According to School Calendar A' QUALIFICATIONS:Valid Ohio Department of Education license Associate: Interpreter for Hearing Impaired.Minimum of two (2) years experience as an educational interpreter.Must be able to physically guide students.CPI (Controlled Physical Intervention)CPR Certificate.First Aid Certificate.Must be Highly QualifiedAcquire Educational Aide Permit through the Department of EducationKnowledge of subject areas to be interpreted or an ability to locate resources to become familiar with content material.Knowledge of child development and language development, especially as it relates to students who are deaf or hard of hearing.Proficiency in spoken and written English and one or more of the following visual modes of communication used by students: American Sign Language, Contact Sign Language, Signed English, Manually Coded English, Signing Exact English, Cued Language, Oral Transliteration.Willing to participate in special education in-services through Board approved training facilities.Experience working with students with disabilities.Ability to adapt the individual child's special needs to the curriculum standards.Must be able to provide students with physical assistance.Training or experience in strategies with Autism, including sensory integration, communication development, visual schedules and applied behavioral intervention.Emotional maturity and stability with a positive cheerful outlook.Ability to interact well with parents and district staff.Ability to move up and down from the floor to work with children.Must be able to act with low emotion and consistently implement a three-part behavioral plan with daily documentation, skills in maintaining calmness and minimizing stressful situations.Must complete all training as required by Sylvania Schools and/or the Ohio Department of Education. A' RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher. Communicate appropriately with students at individual levels of ability. Distribute and collect materials for instruction. Follow intervention strategies for children, as recommended by teacher (s) or therapist. Supervise students while they work, answer questions, explain directions and give appropriate assistance. Use computer, scribe or take notes for students, if required. Maintain awareness of classroom, attending to safety concerns. Accompany students to and from bus, if necessary. Assist in preparing daily materials. Keep documentation of student progress, as directed by teacher. Show respect and maintain confidentiality of all students and their families. Provide assistance with feeding, toileting, hygiene management, wheelchair use and physical transfers for student(s). Some students may need special assistance with tube feeding and catheterization. Implement specific strategies for students, as identified through IEP or behavior plan. Perform other tasks and assume responsibility from building administration as necessary to promote student success and achievement. Toledo Blade.
